Helping America's Most Vulnerable

Home repairs can be challenging for seniors. Yet neglecting such repairs can make it hazardous for them to remain in their own home.

The staff at Repairs on Wheels identifies the need for repairs or modifications, performs safety reviews and educates seniors about home safety. The team develops a plan for repairs and modifications that best suits the home owner's needs.

Minor home repairs could include fixing locks, carpentry, plumbing, window work and other small jobs. Small modifications, such as adding hand rails, may also be performed to make it easier for seniors to move about. For those who can no longer get in and out of their home without assistance, handicap-accessible ramps are also available. There is no charge for repairs. The program serves senior home owners in Jefferson, St. Charles, St. Tammany and St. John parishes as well as the City of Kenner.  Income levels must be verified for seniors to qualify, and only homeowners are eligible.

More Help For St. Tammany Seniors & Persons With Disabilities
Volunteers of America has been awarded a $49,372 USDA Housing Preservation Grant.  This will enable us to offer more home repairs and historic preservation to eligible low-income elderly and persons with disabilities in St. Tammany.  The goal is to do repairs and preservation in six homes during 2015.
