Northshore Opportunities

Volunteers of America has been serving persons in need on the Northshore since our founding in 1896. In 1998, a satellite office was opened in Mandeville to serve the five parishes of St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington, Livingston, and St. Helena; providing us with a centrally located base for our outreach-based services in these five parishes. Northshore Services manages programs that include permanent supportive housing for the homeless and disabled, case management and prevention counseling services for individuals with HIV/AIDS, intensive case management for those with severe mental illness, 24/7 crisis and suicide prevention services, and  RSVP, a volunteer program for those 55 and older. In addition, our Disaster Case Management Program effectively mobilized counselors and case managers to respond to the disaster-related needs of the affected parishes following Hurricane Katrina and Gustav. Our experienced disaster recovery staff are prepared to respond as disasters occur and funding allows. In 2011, our Northshore Services programs provided support to more than 1,000 people in need. Over 400 volunteers provided 60,000 hours of volunteer service to non-profit agencies in St. Tammany Parish.

-Stoney Point Farm Helper: Work at Fresh Food Factor's partner farm, Stoney Point, to grow local produce for our meals. Volunteers will help lay irrigation for the spring and tend to the crops.  Let's make fresh, healthy food a staple instead of a rare treat!
