The horror stories from the hurricane remain overwhelming. Take the 48-year-old Slidell woman with disabilities who rode out the hurricane alone in a trailer, which took on 10 feet of water.
She was rescued from floodwaters, which she miraculously survived without being able to swim.  A TV news helicopter crew spotted her and took her to a hospital, where she was treated for reptile bites and dehydration.

She survived to tell this unbelievable tale, but needed assistance in putting her life back together.  With her injuries, disabilities and loss of her home and belongings, this was daunting.

Katrina Aid Today provided equipment she needed to cope with her disability and made sure she had transportation to receive medical care.

Caseworkers report that instead of being embittered by her experience, she responds only with thanks and appreciation for assistance.  Though home-bound and recovering from great loss, she remains kind-hearted and grateful.
