Tyroniona, 16, known as Bam, has traveled a difficult path.
Her late mother was an addict, her father is in prison and she was raised by her grandmother, her source of strength. Bam always did poorly in school—until she entered Thurgood Marshall Early College High School. There, while looking for after- school activities, Bam found our Lighthouse enrichment program.
The staff noticed her potential and helped her with her studies. They also helped her learn to enjoy life and recognize her own value. Bam stuck with the Lighthouse program during the summer, learned more and got to do more extra-curricular activites.
Bam started to shine. Her grades and attitude were so impressive she was chosen for an international award, which allowed her to take a 21-day cultural trip to Europe where she sang and read for the Pope.
