The goal of the Repairs on Wheels Program is to provide low income seniors over age 55 with the opportunity to live with dignity in an independent setting.

As the elderly population increases, so does the need for compassionate support and special services that enable them to stay in their own homes. Home repairs and safety can be challenging for seniors. Yet neglecting such repairs can make it hazardous for them to remain in their own home. Small adjustments can greatly improve their standard of living.

Repairs on Wheels identifies the need for repairs and modifications, performs safety reviews and assesses housing costs. Our staff counsel and educate seniors about home safety and develop plans for repair and modifications that best suit their needs. They then obtain materials, provide all labor to complete the job and follow-up to ensure satisfaction.

Minor home repairs include fixing locks, carpentry, plumbing, window work and other small jobs. Small modifications, such as adding hand rails, may also be performed to make it easier for seniors to move about. Handicap-accessible ramps are also available for those who can no longer get in and out of their home without assistance.  Income levels must be verified for seniors to qualify, and only homeowners are eligible.

There is no charge for repairs, however, in some parishes homeowners are responsible for purchasing their own materials. The serves Orleans, Jefferson, Kenner, St. Charles, and St. Tammany.
