Our Volunteer Services department serves as the community-wide coordinating body for volunteers helping with hurricane recovery work, including house-gutting, feeding and providing health care.
United Way designated our organization as the clearing house for all recovery volunteers.  We have placed more than 10,000 volunteers in the region.  The United Way and The Hearst Foundation provided funding for this important task.  Check out this page to learn more or volunteer.

A blessing that came out of the hurricane catastrophe is the outpouring of support from persons around the world who have come to help.  Making sure that individuals and groups are matched with meaningful recovery work is essential and complex.  Volunteers of America had the expertise and experience to handle this task.

Everyone can be great because anyone can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. ... You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love."

Martin Luther King, Jr.
