The Family Resource Center offers many services to foster and adoptive children and their families with one basic goal: keeping families together by making them healthier and stronger. 

To achieve this goal,parents need to be empowered to overcome obstacles to their well-being, safety and integrity. The Family Resource Center helps by providing a variety of services and support systems. The Center serves Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and Orleans Parishes through the state Office of Children's Services.

Family Resource Center Services

  • Parenting - Training includes parenting by age group, conflict resolution, communication skills and substance abuse information. Classes offered in the evening. Childcare available on-site.
  • Respite - Planned and crisis out-of-home for one to five days, group and one-on-one recreational activities supervised by staff. Transportation provided for both services.
  • Substance Abuse Counseling — Individual and group counseling for adults, teens and children, assessments and screenings available as needed.
  • Family Preservation — Intensive, in-home therapeutic services to include case management, crisis intervention, counseling, child and family assessments, grief and family therapy, client advocacy and referral, follow-up services as needed.
  • Case Management/Group and Individual Counseling — Assisting families with securing and managing services for child and family development, home visits as needed, resource information and referral, group and individual counseling and assessments. Board-certified therapist provides counseling.
  • Domestic Violence Counseling — Group and individual counseling provided by a licensed social worker.
  • Sexual Abuse Counseling — Long term individual counseling by a certified counselor.
  • Mentoring — With the help and guidance of an adult mentor, each child can discover how to unlock and achieve his or her potential.
  • After-School Program — Tutoring, homework assistance, LEAP preparation and recreational activities. Snacks provided.
  • Summer Camp — Variety of recreational activities offered for eight weeks, based at one site.
  • Transportation — Bus tokens and other transportation assistance as needed and as available.
  • Anger Management — Helping children and families with anger issues and conflict resolution.
