There are 126,000 American children in the foster care system waiting to be adopted, including 455 in the New Orleans area.
Nearly 40 percent, or 81.5 million, American adults have considered adopting a child. If one in 500 of these adults adopted, every waiting child in foster care would have a permanent family.
