Interested in volunteering in New Orleans and surrounding areas?  At Volunteers of America, we can show you how to volunteer in ways that are meaningful to you.  We have volunteer programs for individuals, groups, seniors and youth--local residents and visitors to our area.

Our volunteers help us serve more than 63,000 persons in need throughout southeast Louisiana in a variety of helping programs that focus on children, families, seniors and persons with disabilities.

We need people like you to join us in helping others.  At our organization, volunteers are essential.  Here are some examples of volunteer opportunities:
  • landscaping homes of persons with disabilities
  • helping students in at-risk schools with recreation and academics
  • sharing a hobby or skill, or just being a friend, to formerly homeless veterans or persons in recovery
  • mentoring a child with a parent in prison
  • helping with administrative tasks in our offices.

How to Volunteer in the Community

It's easy.  Think about ways you would like to volunteer, dates and times you would like to volunteer and skills you could offer.  Then email us or call (504) 483-3557.  Our Volunteer staff will get back with you quickly to discuss volunteer opportunities.

Our organization served as the community-wide coordinator for volunteers helping with recovery from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  We have placed more than 20,000 volunteers in the region since the storm.  Whatever your interests, skills or available time, we have a volunteer opportunity suitable for you in a variety of program areas.

Benefits of Volunteering in New Orleans

Many volunteers tell us that they started volunteering to help others in need, but continue to volunteer because it adds so much to their own lives.

When you volunteer, you make a real difference in the lives of people who are hurting.  You help local New Orleans communities grow stronger and overcome social problems.  Though Volunteers of America serves thousands of people each year, all our services are delivered one person at a time.
