How To Donate Stocks And Mutual Fund To Charity
Donating stocks or mutual fund gifts to Volunteers of America can bring you significant tax and estate benefits while making a genuine difference in the lives of people in need. Gifts of stocks and mutual funds are always welcome.
Much like
cash, gifts of stock are tax-deductible at full fair market value, if
held for a year and a day.
Volunteers of
America benefits from the full current value of gifts of stock and mutual funds, and
neither you nor Volunteers of America are required to pay capital
gains tax.
Shares that pay low dividends, shares you believe
have reached their maximum price, or shares you want to eliminate
from your portfolio for other reasons make perfect choices for
contribution. Volunteers of America welcomes these gifts.
If you are interested in making a gift of stocks or mutual funds, it's important to remember that you should not sell the stock and donate the proceeds —
this will jeopardize your tax benefits.
It's easy to make a donation of stocks or mutual funds Be prepared to
provide your broker’s name, telephone number, name of the stock and
number of shares you wish to contribute. We will contact your
broker. You will be notified of the contribution deduction based on
the date of your securities transfer.
