Lutheran Youth Paint SROs

On July 19 and 20, 2012, five groups from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Youth Gathering lent a helping hand at Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans. In partnership with Team Depot and Behr Paint, the groups cleaned, prepped, and painted the common areas and hallways of our Canal St. and Tulane St. Single Room Occupancy Facilities (SROs). SROs provide permanent affordable housing, case management, and employment services for formerly homeless people in recovery from substance abuse. The facility offers a clean and supportive environment that enables residents to make positive changes in their lives. Both buildings were severely damaged in Hurricane Katrina and have been completely renovated since then. However, the general wear and tear of residents moving in and out has taken its toll since then. This beautification project brightened and hallways and the days of its residents.

Cheery volunteers!
