Volunteers of America has long been active in supplying affordable housing to persons in need.  After the hurricane, our expertise and experience are more valuable than ever because affordable housing is scarce throughout south Louisiana. 

The Terraces Is Open, Supplying Affordable Housing To Seniors

The Terraces Opening Ceremony Officials and special guests cut the ribbon at the Terraces on March 26, 2010.  The group included Carol Galante, Deputy Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of Housing; Milton Bailey, President, Louisiana Housing Finance Agency; Shawn Bloom, Volunteers of America National Board Member; Patrick Nash, Managing Director, Housing Investments, JP Morgan Capital Corp.; Jim Bowman, President, National Affordable Housing Trust; Don Fehr, Former Executive Director, Major League Baseball Players Association; Kurt Maloney, Board Chairman, Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans; State Rep. Walker Hines, District 95; Jennifer Farwell, President, Mid-City Neighborhood Organization; Robin Keller, Volunteers of America Vice President, Affordable Housing; Patrick Sheridan, Volunteers of America Senior Vice President of Housing Development; Pastor Sherman L. Sheldon, Firehouse Family Ministries; Chuck Gould, Volunteers of America National President, and our President/CEO Jim LeBlanc.

The Terraces, financed with Gulf Opportunity Zone (Go Zone) Low Income Housing Tax Credits, is one of a small number of funded projects to have completed construction and opened its doors. A partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, JP Morgan Chase, Louisiana Housing Finance Agency, City of New Orleans and Major League Baseball Players Trust funded The Terraces.
